Though the BJP candidate from the Najibabad Lok Sabha constituency, Yashwant Singh had won the seat in 2014 by defeating his nearest rival and then sitting SP MP, Yashvir Singh, the former had trailed behind the latter in the Najibabad assembly segment by 962 votes.
